Initiation project to improve treatment adherence in tuberculosis patients "No1Lost"
Background: The treatment of tuberculosis (TB) is lengthy and has many side effects, especially in the presence of drug resistance or concomitant diseases. In Germany, too, there are therefore frequent treatment discontinuations. The successful completion of treatment depends in particular on the accompanying socio-economic circumstances, which have a significant influence on treatment adherence. Various players are involved in TB care, some of which are insufficiently networked. There are considerable structural differences from region to region, which are also evident in the human and financial resources available and in access to counseling services. A systematic overview of care structures in Germany is still lacking.
Project objective: The aim of the initiation project is to describe the existing regional structures, concepts, networks and funding channels. Experiences, in particular with regard to the socio-medical care of TB patients, are to be systematically recorded. Possible solutions are to be identified and the basis for a competence network for therapy adherence with a prospective register is to be developed. The planned competence network should disseminate sensible approaches to socio-medical support and help to prevent treatment discontinuation through individual counseling. This approach is to be supported by differentiated data collection and evaluation in a clinical-social-medical register.
Work plan: In a survey phase, the care structures are to be systematically recorded and visualized through research, surveys and interviews. The results will be discussed in the workshop in order to evaluate meaningful approaches to improving treatment adherence. In a follow-up project, these approaches will contribute to the development of a competence network for therapy adherence adapted to existing structures and needs.
