World Tuberculosis Day 2025
Every year, World Tuberculosis Day reminds us of the need to join forces to combat this preventable and curable disease. Although the number of cases in Germany is comparatively low, tuberculosis remains a challenge - especially for vulnerable groups. Worldwide, more than one million people still die from TB every year, even though effective diagnoses and treatments are available. Given the current global challenges, this year's motto of the World Health Organization (WHO) is therefore "Yes! We Can End TB: Commit, Invest, Deliver".
To mark World Tuberculosis Day, the "Tuberculosis News" conference will take place on March 24, 2025 with current and diverse contributions. A press release from the RKI provides information on current epidemiological developments in Germany and again shows a slight increase in 2023. However, in order to achieve the internationally agreed goal of eliminating tuberculosis by 2035, efforts must also be intensified in Germany. This includes improved access to rapid diagnosis and effective treatment, socio-medical and patient-centered care and increased prevention in risk groups.
We are trying to address these points with our current projects "No1Lost" and "TB-Risk". Our newly designed website www.dzk-tuberkulose.de is also intended to provide all the necessary information on tuberculosis in a timely and informative manner.
Wecan end TB!
Another event on World Tuberculosis Day that we would like to draw your attention to is the WHO online talk show with State Secretary Dr. Steffen and others.
