What treatment options are there for the long-term effects of tuberculosis and who are the right people to contact?

Post-tuberculosis lung disease (PTLD) is a complex clinical picture with possible long-term functional limitations that can affect patients even after successfully completing therapy and includes a variety of symptoms and secondary diseases. Possible treatment methods depend on the individual severity of the PTLD, meaning that there are no generally applicable treatment standards. If, for example, the deterioration of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the main cause of PTLD, appropriate inhalation therapy can be effective. Accompanying physiotherapy and respiratory therapy as well as rehabilitation can also be effective measures. Contact persons for the further treatment of PTLD are the treating (pulmonary) physicians.
