What is urogenital tuberculosis?
31/1/2025
In some patients, the kidneys, urinary tract, bladder or genital organs are affected by tuberculosis. This is known as urogenital tuberculosis. However, the lungs are by far the most common site of the disease and can also be affected. Urogenital tuberculosis can cause pain, fever, blood in the urine and discomfort when urinating or lead to infertility. For diagnosis, the first morning urine is examined for tuberculosis bacteria, but further tests may also be necessary. If the reproductive organs are affected, sexual partners should also be examined. The treatment of urogenital tuberculosis corresponds to the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis and usually leads to a complete cure.
