What happens to my reported data at the public health department?
31/1/2025

In Germany, tuberculosis must be reported under the Infection Protection Act. This means that doctors are obliged to report the personal data and findings of tuberculosis patients to the responsible health authority. The public health department can then take targeted measures to prevent the spread of the disease. Your data will be used exclusively for this purpose.

The reported cases are transmitted to the Robert Koch Institute in anonymized form via the regional offices, i.e. without personal details such as names or addresses. There, the data from all over Germany is collected and analyzed in order to track the development of the tuberculosis situation in the country. This anonymization makes it impossible to identify you as an individual person. In addition, the medical staff involved in your treatment are subject to a duty of confidentiality.
