Can tuberculosis be operated on?
31/1/2025

Tuberculosis is treated with a combination of antibiotics, which can cure the disease in most cases.

However, it is sometimes necessary to take tissue samples to establish the diagnosis - for example by removing a lymph node. In some cases, damage to the tissue or changes remain after treatment, which can make complete healing more difficult or prevent it. In such cases, a team of various specialists will discuss whether surgery to remove the affected areas is appropriate. However, surgery cannot replace the use of medication.
