18.3.2019

On 18 March 2019, the DZK Tuberculosis Prize was awarded for the first time as part of the "Tuberkulose Aktuell" conference organized by the DZK in Berlin. The prize was awarded to the team of authors Claudia Doyle and Mathias Tertilt for their outstanding reports on the topic of tuberculosis. In their articles, the authors impressively describe why tuberculosis has gotten out of control in India and what methods are now being used to contain the disease. At the same time, they highlight the need to intensify research activities in Germany in order to stop the disease.

The award-winning articles are as follows: The multimedia report " Die vergessene Seuche", which was published on March 1, 2018 in the online edition of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung, the article "Der Erreger frisst die Erfolge auf", which appeared in the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on February 28, 2018 and the radio report "Kampf gegen Tuberkulose in Indien: Wir werden die Seuche beenden", broadcast on Deutschlandfunk on February 11, 2018.

"The sum of the contributions resulted in a cross-media information package that is technically up to date, professionally implemented in multimedia and provides a human perspective with high information value on the topic of tuberculosis," said the jury in its statement. The prize was presented to Claudia Doyle and Mathias Tertilt by Prof. Dr. Torsten Bauer, Secretary General of the DZK and Dr. Cornelia Breuer, Vice President of the DZK.
